Once the first fire is burned the finish will etch into the steel and become part of the protective finish. At this time if you wish to clean off the excess patina material on your fire pit simply scrub lightly with water and a soft nylon brush then hose off any excess and let dry. Over time this finish will darken to a beautiful burgundy color. If you plan to use your fire pit on a wood deck we recommend placing it over a protective pad or paving stones which can be purchased at your local hardware store.
